Do you know what to search for in a good rosacea moisturizer solution? I’m absolutely sure that if you are on the list of sixteen million people who find themselves diagnosed with this particular condition every year you almost certainly already understand that almost all of the creams you presently possess will not work on this problem because the challenge is beneath the skin – not on top of it.

So it will not make any difference if the skin is dry or oily and actually, fifty percent of the individuals with rosacea have a combination of skin types. Half of them have dry skin, 50 percent oily. So what can you do in case you want a treatment solution on your rosacea skin condition?

Step one should be to comprehend exactly what exactly is occurring. In contrast to other skin difficulties, rosacea has to do with something that occurs in the vascular system. The vascular system is made up of blood vessels and tissues that circulate blood or lymph from the body. At the start of rosacea, your blood vessels turn out to be dilated which will cause amplified blood flow. Then, the excess fluid starts to build up inside the face tissues.

At first you may notice tiny blood vessels all around your nose and cheeks as the fluid fills up your skin tissue and they swell until finally they are nearer to the skin. If left untreated, the tissues will continue to gather the excess fluid and will get worse after some time. That is why it truly is crucial to have treatment immediately. You’ll need to reduce the inflammation before it begins to spread out.

Additionally you need to get the right diagnosis. It’s frequently mistaken for bad acne because it might appear as tiny bumps on the face. But acne prescription drugs and creams usually are not the best treatment to put on these red spots and actually, can make them more intense. Also, when you treat your self using a moisturizer that doesn’t have an anti-inflammatory agent inside it, your skin may feel better and stop itching, but the condition will not go away. Don’t forget I stated before that this isn’t an affliction which has to do with dry or oily skin.

Receiving the right prognosis is essential before you start a treatment method. For those who have ample information and facts though, you should be in a position to see if you have acne breakouts, eczema or rosacea. So conduct your analysis fully before your self-diagnosis and even better, go to your doctor or skin doctor to confirm your conclusions. Rosacea can be addressed but due to its characteristics – of staying something happening below the epidermis, it might take a while to go away. You just need to do what you can, and let your whole body do the rest.

Most rosacea sufferers do not have issues with the skin disorder until they are in their 20s, but it does occur earlier in some people. It is very important to treat ocular rosacea quickly because complications can affect the cornea and lead to blindness if not treated.

The first signs that you may have ocular rosacea include an itching or burning feeling in the eyes and frequently red eyes and conjunctival infections. What is Intense Pulse Light Therapy

What is IPL?

What is IPL?
What is IPL?

This article examines Intense Pulse Light treatment, frequently abbreviated as IPL, a relatively new treatment to help with various skin conditions. This article will help you understand what IPL is and if the treatment could be beneficial to your skin.

So what is Intense Pulsed Light Treatment?

The treatment is sometimes referred to as photorejuvenation because it delivers light and heat to the deep layers of the skin while leaving the top layers untouched. The light and heat acts on the skin cells in a number of ways which can help repair the appearance of your skin.

The IPL technology supplies a broad spectrum of light that reaches deep down to the collagen level of the skin to produce remarkable results. The therapeutic light energy is transformed to heat energy. That means that damaged tissue can be targeted by the heat of the intense pulse light and previously damaged skin cells can be broken apart. Once broken apart the skin cells are absorbed by the surrounding tissue and the appearance of the surface skin is greatly improved.

When you go in for an intense pulse light treatment, firstly a protective gel is applied to the area of skin that is going to be treated. The IPL device is placed on your skin and the light begins to pulse as the treatment is applied. You might feel a tiny sting during the treatment, but many people report that they don’t even notice any kind of feeling during the procedure. After the treatment some people find their face will be flushed, but after a couple of days the skin calms down. People usually have multiple IPL treatments until they receive the results they are after. Treatments vary in length of between 25 minutes and 45 minutes depending on where you go and the extent of your treatment.

So what skin conditions can intense pulse light treat? IPL can be used to fix a large number of skin conditions and more uses are being discovered every year. Firstly, it can be very effective at treating sun damaged skin. After years of exposure to ultra violet rays from the sun, most people suffer some damage to the collagen in their skin. That results in poor complexion, mottled pigmentation, sun spots and freckles on the skin. IPL is fantastic at removing this kind of sun damage, so if you were over exposed to the sun previously, IPL is a great solution for repairing some of that damage.

IPL can also be used on other kinds of marks on the skin, like stubborn red and brown spots which most people have as they age. It generally works well at evening out your overall complexion, so if you have splotches of pigmentation or old acne scares that won’t go away it will work very well on those. IPL can also be very effective at addressing broken veins and capilliaries on the face.

Finally, IPL is a fantastic treatment for the skin condition rosacea. Rosacea causes a red flushing of the face which is caused by dilation of the blood vessels. Rosacea can also cause unsightly pustules on the skin which have the same appearance as rosacea and can eventually cause scarring and numerous broken veins and capillaries on the face. IPL can address all of the issues around rosacea, making it an essential solution for rosacea sufferers.

Because the IPL treatment is fairly quick, it’s perfect for people who want to quickly address issues with their skin, be it from aging, over exposure to the sun or a skin ailment like rosacea.

Moisturizer for Rosacea

Moisturizer for Rosacea
Moisturizer for Rosacea
Moisturizer for Rosacea

To combat rosacea you have to be very careful in determining which products you use on your face as well as your diet and behavior. One of the key elements is choosing the right moisturizer and choosing the correct moisturizer can be the difference between keeping your rosacea under control or having a flareup.

There are hundreds or products available and there are also many natural rosacea remedies which you can try using simple household ingredients!

So instead of reviewing some of the many products, here is a few key concepts to keep in mind when selecting a moisturizer product for your skin.

Firstly, it’s usually best to avoid products that have a large number of chemical ingredients. Moisturizers with 10 or 20 ingredients are more likely to irritate your skin than something nice and simple.

Also avoid products with alcohol, ureas, fragrances, sulfates and mineral oil in them. That sounds like a large list, but by simply looking for products labeled as organic you will avoid most of those nasty chemicals.

Look for ingredients that you know have a good reputation for healing skin. There are some natural ingredients like Manuka Honey, Shea butter, Cucumber, Jojoba oil which have proven healing qualities. If you use organic products with those proven ingredients you are more likely to have a product that works well with rosacea.

If you are using a medicated moisturizer, also look for products with 50% or higher active ingredients. That means that the product has a high potency of the products that help your skin. Some manufacturers dilute the potency of their products.

Two products which have been proven to work for most rosacea sufferers are:

1) Rosacea Care Willowherb Moisturizer with Vitamin K

This product works well when used in the morning and evening after washing your face. It is very gentle and has vitamin K and Willoherb to help heal tired rosacea afflicted skin and remove redness. It is very mild and very few rosacea sufferers have found this product to irritate or inflame their rosacea.

2) Cetaphil Fragrance Free Daily Facial Moisturizer

Cetaphil is a well known brand with rosacea sufferers – their soap and moisturizers are well known as a great combination for rosacea affected skin. This particular product has the additional advantage of containing a sunscreen. That means instead of using separate moisturizer and sunscreen products (and risking reactions between the products), you can use this single product.

Exercise and Rosacea

Rosacea and Exercise
Rosacea and Exercise
Rosacea and Exercise

Everyone knows that exercise is part of having a healthy lifestyle – a great way to reduce fat, keep your heart healthy, keeping your muscles toned. But there are also benefits for your skin. For starters you are out in the sun, and as long as exposure is moderate, you are receiving your daily dose of vitamin D from the suns rays.

Additionally the increase in blood flow around the body from exercise helps stimulate the skin, keeping it refreshed and renewed. When you increase blood flow and increase your breathing, you are increasing the oxygen in your body, keeping your blood cells healthy and that flows through to your skin.

Not only that but internal organs benefit from an increased heart rate, accelerated breathing and the use of your muscles as you exercise. It helps remove waste from your system too, so you not only look great but your internal health is addressed by moderate exercise.

Additionally, from studies on rosacea we know that stress is known to exacerbate rosacea. The more stressed you are, the more rosacea flareups you have the worse they are. Stress hormones affect the glands in the skin which produce oil. So a very stressed person can have very oily skin which makes acne or rosacea worse. Limiting stress helps reduce your rosacea!

Now here’s the good news – exercise reduces stress! So walking or running around the park everyday improves not only your body and your skin, but your mind as well.

Moderate exercise has been shown to help with rosacea but there are some issues to be aware of when you exercise. The main problem with exercise is that when you do it outdoors, you will be exposed to UV rays. So whilst some sun is great for Vitamin D, too much UV and you may be at risk of making your rosacea worse.

To get around the UV risk, use sunscreen when outdoors. If you get sunburnt not only do you risk a
rosacea flareup, but you are risking cancer!

Additionally, you will need to maintain very good hygiene after exercising. You will be sweating more and failure to wash your face after a good exercise session can make rosacea worse. Use a very mild rosacea friendly cleaner and moisturizer.

The final risk is over heating yourself with effort. Extremely vigorous exercise has been known to cause a rosacea flareup. Use only moderate exercise such as brisk walks and short runs. Try to avoid exercising during the hottest part of the day. If you are in a cold environment, exercise indoors or you are outdoors cover your face to protect it from cold winds.

The health benefits of exercising are incredible, especially for rosacea! If you haven’t exercised for a while start off with a leisurely walk around the park. You will feel great afterwards, and build up from there. The key with exercise is regularity. Do it everyday and you will be feeling (and looking) great!

Does caffeine trigger rosacea?

Caffeine and Rosacea
Caffeine and Rosacea
Caffeine and Rosacea

There a number of widely known ways to modify your diet to reduce the effects of rosacea – drink more water, avoid spicy food, drink green tea, avoid eggs, avoid meat, avoid milk. But one that doesn’t have as much of an emphasis is the avoidance of caffeine.

In terms of diet, the best approach is the removal of rosacea triggers one at a time, then a gradual re-introduction to see which of them are a trigger to you. There are some people who can drink a moderate amount of caffeine without any negative effects, while others have a flare up from ingesting a single cup of coffee or can of cola!

The tricky thing with testing the effect that caffeine has on your rosacea is that it is in all kinds of products that you might not have thought of. You will find caffeine not only in cola and coffee, but in black tea! Even green tea has a small amount of caffeine, but it is considered to be so small that it’s unlikely it would cause a rosacea flareup. One source of caffeine that many may not be familiar with is chocolate. Virtually every chocolate bar has caffeine in it, so if you are being rigorous as you test the effect of caffeine on your rosacea, you will need to also avoid chocolate. Yes, very harsh I know!

Another strange one is the presence of caffeine in all kinds of commercial drinks, including flavored teas and sports drinks. Read those labels carefully!

You should get off caffeine (or substantially reduce it) for at least a month to see what effect it has on your skin. If your skin is better it is safe to assume that caffeine does have an effect and you need to monitor your intake of the chemical very carefully.

Studies actually suggest that the temperature of beverages also plays a role. So rosacea sufferers who has stopped drinking coffee and have seen their skin improve sometimes are seeing an improvement because they aren’t drinking scalding hot beverages 5 times a day! So consider the temperature of your beverages as well.

But why is caffeine of particular concern? It turns out that the chemical is a vascular constrictor, which means it constricts blood vessels. That sounds like it might be useful in the reduction of rosacea, given that the flushing from rosacea is the dilation of blood vessels in the face. Well it is – briefly. After the caffeine restricts the blood vessels, they dilate even further, exacerbating the skin condition for most people.

Scientists have also said that if you really drink a lot of caffeine it can increased the production of sebum, which makes your face more oily!

Keep in mind that because rosacea is a complex skin condition, with no known cure and many variables that caffeine may or may not be one of your key problems. To ascertain if it is, approach your diet and lifestyle scientifically. Use a journal, write down what you ate and drank each day and take notes on the condition of your skin – or better yet take a photo at the same times every day. Perhaps one in the morning and one in the evening. Then try removing caffeine for 4 weeks and check the results. Keep in mind if you are reducing caffeine but ingesting too much of another rosacea trigger like chillies, the chillies could be obscuring the result of skipping the caffeine!

By a careful and analytical approach to possible rosacea triggers you find out what works best for you. Don’t forget the forums are available to discuss rosacea food triggers with others going through the same journey!

Rosacea Diet

Rosacea Diet
Rosacea Diet
Rosacea Diet

Unfortunately there isn’t a cure for rosacea yet, and rosacea sufferers need to rely on a mixture of dietary measures, creams, drugs, moisturizers and behavior modification to stop rosacea from flaring up. But what exactly is a rosacea diet?

A rosacea diet is one that voids certain foods and embraces others to reduce the frequency of rosacea flareups. With some careful planning of your diet it’s actually very easy to modify what you eat and drink and see a noticeable change in the quality of your skin.

Rosacea affects an estimated 15 million people in the world, so you are not alone! There are a number of support forums (including the one on this website) so if you have any questions on the material below, feel free to ask. Chances are someone has already had the same question previously.

No one actually knows what causes rosacea but some theories include bacteria, stomach problems or a defect in the tissue on the face. Despite this, by following some simple steps you can make your rosacea disappear.

One of the keys in a rosacea diet is the use of water and alkaline drinks. You should try to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day, which not only keeps you feeling fresh and hydrated, but is known to reduce the severity of rosacea. An additional benefit is that you will see your eyes looking clearer and brighter as well as your stomach and digestive system feeling better. Some specialists have said that alkaline drinks such as carrot juice, spinach and so on can help lower the acidity in your body, adding to overall health and helping combat rosacea.

There are some foods that you should avoid. Number 1 in those is spicy foods! Anything with lots of chilli, spices and hot sauce should be avoided as rosacea sufferers over the years have found a link between those kinds of foods and rosacea episodes. If you love spicy foods you can use a process of elimination to see if you really need them. Follow all of the rosacea diet tips in this article, until your flareups reduce, then re-introduce spicy food and see if it is a trigger for you.

Unfortunately for people who like a tipple, alcohol is known to be a cause for rosacea flareups. You can still enjoy the occaisional drink, but avoid overdoing it, any more than 4 drinks and you are at risk of bringing on a rosacea flareup.

The next part of the rosacea diet is tricky because it involves proteins in general. Some people have noted that dairy food, meat, and eggs are capable of causing a flareup. It is one reason why some rosacea sufferers become vegetarians. Once they remove a few proteins or lower the intake of some proteins they have seen an improvement so went vegetarian. To test this, it is recommended that you try a month of very low intake of meat, dairy and eggs and see if a noticeable change occurs.

Rosacea sufferers have reported that the protein issue is not as important as the previous three (lots of water, avoid spicy food, avoid alcohol). So many people with rosacea enjoy a moderate level of meat/dairy/eggs in their diet but have cured their rosacea with lots of water, no spicy food and low or no alcohol in their diet.

The key is to be very analytical about it. Keep a journal and jot down your diet and the frequency of outbreaks to see if a causation can be spotted. With some of these major irritants it is best to get off them completely for a month and see what effect it has on your skin, then reintroduce slowly to see what happens. Also the water rule always applies! Get drinking, it will help your rosacea and also improve your overall health.

Makeup for Rosacea

Makeup for Rosacea
Makeup for Rosacea
Makeup for Rosacea

There are numerous tactics for the rosacea sufferer to combat their rosaca. However flareups are almost inevitable because at some stage you might drink too much alcohol or miss your daily facial cleansing routine, over exercise or be exposed to very hot or cold conditions. There are many things you cannot entirely control, also you might just have a bad day and the emotional stress could trigger a rosacea breakout!

Well in those cases you can use makeup to reduce the visible redness and blemishes on your skin. Most dermatologists tell rosacea sufferers to be very careful when choosing makup and to avoid continual use of makeup to hide the problem. Generally it is best to take control of your rosacea with dietary modifications, avoiding extreme heat/cold, finding a medication that works for you and only using makeup to cover rosacea when you have had an unavoidable rosacea episode.

Here are some tips on what to look for when choosing the appropriate makeup to help disguise rosacea symptoms.

Here is what to avoid:
Avoid perfumed cosmetics. Generally heavily perfumed cosmetics have more additives and chemicals and may be more caustic to the skin. Prolonged use of heavily perfumed cosmetics can actually increase the number and severity of rosacea breakouts!

Avoid products with lots of ingredients. Products which have a large number of ingredients are more likely to irritate your skin. Look for simple and effective products, they are less likely to irritate your skin.

Avoid alcohol and oil based products. Oil and alcohol are sometimes present in cosmetics and sometimes can cause a flare in sensitive rosacea prone skin. That includes anything that strips your natural oil out of your skin. Examples of those kinds of products are Witch Hazel, Eucalyptus Oil, Menthol. These products are too harsh for your skin and many cosmetics and cleansers contain them.

Also avoid anything that is designed to tighten up the skin and stip those natural oils – that includes astringents and many exfoliating products. When you treat your skin harshly a breakout is inevitable.

So that’s is a short list of what to avoid when selecting cosmetics for your skin, but what should you try to use?

You are basically looking for products which have a small number of ingredients! If the list of ingredients doesn’t include oils, astringents, alcohol and numerous additives, generally it has a better chance of being usable and not irritating your rosacea.

When you try a cosmetic out, test it on a part of your body where no one will see it. Don’t go slapping it on your face immediately, because sometimes all it takes is a single ingredient in a product to cause a breakout. If you get a sign of a breakout, give the product to one of your friends!

Some rosacea sufferers claim that organic products (without chemicals) have less chance of irritating your skin. Also don’t use too many products on your skin at once – they can actually react with each other. So a moisturizer might have ingredients that make your concealer irritate your skin. Keep it simple!
